A short month, yet a good month for North Carolina wine. Two important wine “holidays” also took place; National Drink Wine Day (February 18, we had the Petite Sirah from Junius Lindsay) and Open that Bottle Night (February 25 we opened the2007 Merlot from McRitchie). In total for the month, we had 15 fantastic NC Wines (with a short break at the beginning of the month).

Tonight we're enjoying the 2015 Riesling from Midnight Magdalena Vineyards! Unlike many sweet Rieslings you find in the grocery store, this one is dry. The nose is is fruity with notes of creamed lemon, honey, and tangerine. The flavor is bright with a light acidity up front. It moves to a mineral rich mid-palate which turns to light citrus before finishing out cleanly. #SwanCreek #YadkinValley #NCWine #ncwgFeb2017

Tonight we're enjoying the 2015 Carolinius from @raylenvineyards! Dark and inky, this red is quite heavy for being a younger wine. The nose is deep with dark cherries and a touch of vanilla. The flavors start out fruity with macerated blueberries and figs that move to a nicely oaked mid-palate. It finishes long with medium-heavy tannins. #YadkinValley #NCWine #ncwgFeb2017

For #OpenThatBottleNight we decided on the 2007 Merlot from @mcritchiewinery! It's holding up quite well and this wine is still going strong. The nose mellowed out nicely and had a hint of dried herbs and vanilla. The flavors were still fruit forward, but were mellow and even. It still could have gone another 3-5 years but we enjoyed it today! #YadkinValley #NCWine #ncwgFeb2017

Tonight we're enjoying the 2012 Cabernet Franc from @jonesvondrehle! This red is a great balance of juicy fruits and delicate oak. The nose is filled with dark ripe fruits -- plums, figs and cherries all rolled into one. The ripe fruits carry into the flavors up front. It then moves to vanilla on the mid-palate turning to soft tannins and red fruits on the finish. #YadkinValley #NCWine #ncwgFeb2017

Tonight we're enjoying the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon from Flint Hill Vineyards! This red is medium-bodied and full of flavor. The nose is mellow with dried herbs and sweet cherries. The flavors unfold with each sip. It starts with a subtle dried cranberry that slowly move to a slightly spicy mid-palate. Dried red fruits show up as it moves to the finish. It ends on a pleasant plum note and fades out slowly. #YadkinValley #NCWine #ncwgFeb2017
