Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard and Winery

In North Carolina there are a number of wineries that are also considered century farms. Baker Buffalo Creek is fortunate enough to be on that short list.

The tasting room and wine production facility are part of an old dairy building. The old dairy barn itself serves as an enclosed seating area perfect for enjoying a nice picnic lunch and a glass of wine after sampling their tasting menu. The ample outdoor seating is perfect on nice days and large shade trees provide shelter from the summer sun. Just past the main area are the farmhouse itself and the picturesque red barn that was recently featured on a Hillshire Farms commercial.

Charles and Ann are the owners and wine makers. They warmly great each and every customer that comes in for a visit. These two are some of the nicest people you will encounter and will go out of their way to make sure you’re taken care of.

With such a quaint setting and fantastic wines, it’s hard to visit here and not want to stay for days. Time has a way of slowing down, allowing you to forget the busy world and relax in a place that feels just like home.

Here are a few if our favorites from Baler Buffalo Creek:

Barrel Aged Chardonnay – This is one wine you don’t want to miss. The 2011 vintage was perhaps the best Chardonnay in North Carolina (of only we could award such honors). The current vintage is the 2012 and it’s on track to follow its predecessor nicely. It is a well balanced wine with hints of citrus, apricot and a light kiss of oak.

Cabernet Sauvignon – This is our go-to red for any occasion. The dark red color is reflected in its complex flavors showing signs of red currants, bright cherries and plums laced together with a nice cedar tones and mild tannins.

Granda – A blend of four red grapes, the Granda is another excellent choice. This will pair well with almost any grilled meats, pastas or even hummus. It is a little heavier than the Cabernet Sauvignon, but not too the extreme.
