We first poured the wine into the un-oaked Chardonnay / Viognier glass. The wine tasted just fine, however the nose was quite muted. After a few sips, we thought that it might be better suited in the oaked Chardonnay glasses. The nose immediately jumped out as being more fragrant and distinguished. There are hints of pear and apple blossom, with a very subtle trace of lemon balm.

The flavors from glass to glass were notably different as well. In the un-oaked glass, the bright acidity came through initially with great prominence. In the oaked glass, the flavors were more true to the grape. The initial flavor was still slightly acidic, but it also showed a bit of apple and pear. The mid-palate is long and lingering with notes of banana and tropical fruits. It develops into a creamy and slightly buttery finale that slowly turns to a woody finish.

Now, we’ve mentioned before that we might be considered glass snobs. We enjoy having wine in a glass that will best highlight the characteristics of the wine. If you don’t have a cupboard full of wine glasses, that’s ok. Simply pour this wine into any wine glass and it’ll be just as good from one glass to another. We do recommend that you allow enough time for the wine to breathe appropriately. We will decant any wine, red or white, if it’s less than 5 years old. If you don’t have a decanter, you can simply uncork the bottle and leave it open for an hour. This will allow some oxygen to enter the wine and really bring out the best qualities of the wine. Any way you pour it, the Junius Lindsay Roussanne will taste good out of any glass that you have.

Check out our other NC Wine Month postings:

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” id=”156, 696″ posts_per_page=”-1″ post_type=”page” taxonomy=”post_tag” tax_operator=”0″ order=”asc” orderby=”id”]

Tonight we decided to open a bottle of something very familiar, the Junius Lindsay Roussanne from Junius Lindsay Vineyard. Roussanne is typically found in many French white blends, especially those produced in the Rhône style. As a straight varietal wine it makes for a unique wine, making it a refreshing option from the run of the millContinue reading →

[379
226,81,203,133,262,254,154
post-291","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the-cellar","tag-junius-lindsay-vineyards","tag-nc-wine","tag-nc-wine-month-2014","tag-roussanne","tag-white-wine","tag-wine-review","tag-yadkin-valley","no-thumb
["GET
