\u00a0Although we should have celebrated with rum, we wanted to keep our NC Wine streak going. \u00a0This evening we decided to keep it in the Yadkin Valley and went for the Stony Knoll Viognier from <a title=\"Stony Knoll Vineyards\" href=\"http:\/\/stonyknollvineyards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stony Knoll Vineyards<\/a>. \u00a0This light white wine was a welcome addition to our grilled shrimp dinner.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We have posted about Viognier before, so you know that it&#8217;s not the most widely known grape. \u00a0Some might think that it&#8217;s hard to tell the difference from one Viognier to the next. \u00a0That notion is simply not true. \u00a0Viogniers on the lighter end of the spectrum tend to favor a more steely and acidic profile. \u00a0The opposite end of this is a robust and heavy Viognier that is big on the tropical notes and has a creamy mouth-feel. \u00a0\u00a0The Stony Knoll Viognier leans more toward the lighter style of the spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>In the glass, the wine is very light and remarkably clear. \u00a0The color is very pale shade of yellow, nearly the color of freshly harvested straw. \u00a0The nose is light and reflects some of the grassy qualities of a Sauvignon Blanc. \u00a0There is a light hint of citrus in there as well. \u00a0The bright flavors that are present upfront are vibrant carrying through the citrus notes. \u00a0This wine is truly light in body and doesn&#8217;t last long on the palate. \u00a0The wine ends on a crisp note\u00a0with a clean and soft mineral finish.<\/p>\n<p>It would be fantastic to have this wine\u00a0paired our previously reviewed Viognier. \u00a0On one end you have a crisp and bright Viognier that is clean with lovely citrus notes. \u00a0Then you move into the heavier Viognier that is full-bodied displaying tropical notes and a soft lingering finish. \u00a0This only goes to show you that Viognier is incredibly versatile and can offer many possibilities all with one grape.<\/p>\n<p>See for yourself and head over to Stony Knoll Vineyards in Dobson, NC.<\/p>\n<p>[su_gmap address=&#8221;Stony Knoll Vineyards, Dobson, NC&#8221;]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Check out our other NC Wine Month postings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[su_posts template=&#8221;templates\/teaser-loop.php&#8221; id=&#8221;156, 696&#8243; posts_per_page=&#8221;-1&#8243; post_type=&#8221;page&#8221; taxonomy=&#8221;post_tag&#8221; tax_operator=&#8221;0&#8243; order=&#8221;asc&#8221; orderby=&#8221;id&#8221;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arrrgh,\u00a0it is Talk Like a Pirate Day!
