When we got home, we decided to unwind with a bottle of the 2011 Cypress Bend Malbec.

This ruby-red wine is clean and clear in the glass. The vibrant color is constant from the center all the way to the edge. The nose is complex but a bit faint. There are hints of blueberry and possibly white pepper. The initial flavor is light as well with some of the white pepper mixed with a subtle creamy texture. On the finishing notes, the wine shows a light lactic finish.

This wine is perfect to unwind with. It isn’t terribly heavy and yet it has more body than a white wine or rosé. This wine would have paired nicely with our wood fired pizza, but we could also see this with a nice pasta dish. A pork tenderloin with a blackberry glaze would also be fantastic.

You can buy any of their wines on their website or you can plan a visit to the winery in Wagram, NC.

[su_gmap address=”Cypres Bend Vineyards, Wagram, NC”]

Check out our other NC Wine Month postings:

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” id=”156, 696″ posts_per_page=”-1″ post_type=”page” taxonomy=”post_tag” tax_operator=”0″ order=”asc” orderby=”id”]

Tonight we ate out at a local pizza restaurant, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying some great North Carolina wine.
