Tonight we opened a bottle of the Elkin Creek Chardonnay from <a title=\"Elkin Creek Vineyard\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elkincreekvineyard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elkin Creek Vineyard.<\/a> \u00a0This Chardonnay is so rich and creamy, I mistakenly thought it was finished in oak and pulled out the wrong glasses for the wine. \u00a0After quickly reading up on the wine, we realized it was 100% stainless steel (I was shocked, Joe had a lingering suspicion), and we changed glasses. \u00a0While the wine wasn&#8217;t bad out of the oaked Chardonnay glasses, it was remarkably better and the flavors were more concentrated out of the stainless Chardonnay\/Viognier glasses. \u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The winemaker at Elkin Creek really knows how to make a delicious wine. \u00a0This Chardonnay is full-bodied and creamy from beginning\u00a0to end. \u00a0The nose is a little grapey and ripe with a fruit forward aroma. \u00a0The first draw in is bright with a slight hint of lemon. \u00a0Then it transforms into a rich creaminess on the mid-palate. \u00a0The finish has hints of malted fruit and a slight nutty end note. \u00a0It does resemble an oaked Chardonnay while keeping all the best characteristics from a true-to-the-fruit stainless steel version.<\/p>\n<p>Elkin Creek Vineyard has a great variety\u00a0of wines produced in a more European style. \u00a0Their whites are mostly traditional and some of their reds resemble Italian style wines. \u00a0The winery itself has a cozy feel to it. \u00a0On most days you can sample their wines with a loaf of wood-fired bread and some local cheese. \u00a0On Sundays, they offer wood-fired pizzas as well (definitely worth the visit).<\/p>\n<p>Elkin Creek Vineyard is located in Elkin, NC.<br \/>\n[su_gmap address=&#8221;Elkin Creek Vineyard and Winery, Elkin, NC&#8221;]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Check out our other NC Wine Month postings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[su_posts template=&#8221;templates\/teaser-loop.php&#8221; id=&#8221;156, 696&#8243; posts_per_page=&#8221;-1&#8243; post_type=&#8221;page&#8221; taxonomy=&#8221;post_tag&#8221; tax_operator=&#8221;0&#8243; order=&#8221;asc&#8221; orderby=&#8221;id&#8221;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One third of the way through!
