One Year with COVID"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9991\" src=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/BIRU-WP-20200829T170014GMT-0400-300x251.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/BIRU-WP-20200829T170014GMT-0400-300x251.png 300w, http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/BIRU-WP-20200829T170014GMT-0400-150x126.png 150w, http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/BIRU-WP-20200829T170014GMT-0400.png 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/index.php\/in-the-wine-light\/\">In the Wine Light<\/a> is one year with COVID. \u00a0On March 11, 2020, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\">World Health Organization<\/a> officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic. \u00a0Stay at home orders soon followed including <a href=\"https:\/\/files.nc.gov\/governor\/documents\/files\/EO118.pdf\">ours here in North Carolina<\/a> on March 17, 2020. \u00a0Life changed drastically overnight.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10268\" src=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-13-at-2.29.50-PM-300x196.png\" alt=\"Closed due to COVID\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-13-at-2.29.50-PM-300x196.png 300w, http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-13-at-2.29.50-PM-150x98.png 150w, http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-13-at-2.29.50-PM.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From March 18 &#8211; May 22, 2020, tasting rooms in North Carolina were closed to onsite consumption. \u00a0Curbside pickup and online sales were still allowed, but visiting a tasting room or having wine on a patio at a vineyard or winery was not. \u00a0Finally, a <a href=\"https:\/\/files.nc.gov\/governor\/documents\/files\/EO141-Phase-2.pdf\">new executive order<\/a> came and on May 23, 2020, onsite consumption was allowed once again but with new guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Under this new world, businesses adapted. \u00a0The wine industry in North Carolina did too, and for the most part, it thrived. \u00a0Some did struggle, but all in and all things weren&#8217;t as bad as they could have been.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a trying year for all of us, but there have been a few positives. \u00a0We want to highlight a few things we hope will continue in the wine world after things get back to normal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Continued online sales and shipping.<\/strong> \u00a0A number of wineries didn&#8217;t have this option before COVID, but many pivoted quickly. \u00a0It&#8217;s a wonderful option for getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncwine.org\">North Carolina Wine<\/a> directly for your front door!<\/li>\n<li><strong>More outdoor options.<\/strong> \u00a0Many wineries and vineyards expanded their outdoor options in the last year. \u00a0There&#8217;s more room and more places to enjoy wine outdoors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reservations for tastings or just a table.<\/strong> \u00a0We hate waiting, so we find this option to be super fantastic. \u00a0Having a dedicated time to enjoy wine makes for a more pleasurable experience.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Virtual tastings.<\/strong> \u00a0We have loved participating in these. \u00a0It&#8217;s a safe and fun way to enjoy wine and still connect with others!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And there are a few things we won&#8217;t miss when things return to normal. \u00a0These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Disposable drinkware.<\/strong> \u00a0Not only do they not show wine well, they&#8217;re also not great for the environment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Masked faces.<\/strong> \u00a0We&#8217;ve missed seeing those smiles behind the tasting room bar!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_10267\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10267\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10267\" src=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/3ws-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"Practice the 3 Ws!\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/3ws-300x226.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/3ws-150x113.jpg 150w, http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/3ws.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Practice the 3 Ws!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Let&#8217;s all continue to do our part to help beat this virus. \u00a0Practice your three Ws. \u00a0Wear. \u00a0Wash. \u00a0Wait. \u00a0And when it&#8217;s your turn, get your shot! \u00a0You can find more information at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services&#8217;
