Banner Elk, NC<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Appalachian High Country AVA is distinguished from the surrounding areas and other AVAs due to topography, climate, and soils. \u00a0At the time of the petition to establish the AVA, there were 21 vineyards and 10 wineries.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the shorter growing season and cooler climate of the high country, hybrid grapes varieties are more widely grown. \u00a0Seyval Blanc, Marquette, Marechal Foch, Frontenac, and Vidal Blanc are some of the most popular varieties. \u00a0You can also find vinifera varieties in smaller quantities such as Riesling and Pinot Noir.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10246\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10246\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10246\" src=\"http:\/\/ncwineguys.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/BIRU-WP-20170805T114825GMT-0400-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Vineyard at Grandfather Mountain Vineyard  &amp;
