The region and AVA are fast becoming a wine tourism destination with a focus on producing high quality North Carolina Wine.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A brief history of the Yadkin Valley<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the 20th Century, the once thriving tobacco growing region was turning to a new crop, wine grapes. &nbsp;At the time of the petition there were over 30 growers within the original boundaries of the AVA and 3 bonded wineries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The petition for creating the Yadkin Valley AVA originated from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcritchiewine.com\">Patricia McRitchie<\/a>&nbsp;on behalf of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sheltonvineyards.com\">Shelton Vineyards<\/a>. &nbsp;The Yadkin Valley name was chosen because the area had been known as the Yadkin Valley since pre-colonial days with the Yadkin River being a prominent feature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A petition by Alliston Stubbs of Cedar Ridge Vineyards in Reeds, NC asked to include additional land in Davie and Davidson Counties in the new AVA. &nbsp;This petition was accepted. Latitude is between&nbsp;36\u00b000\u2032 and 36\u00b030\u2032 N.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Climate:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;Temperatures and precipitation are moderate as compared to the surrounding areas.
